OPEN THREAD BAR™ WORKSHOP

Have you ever wanted to experiment with different threads before buying them? Well, now you can! This is an "open thread bar" workshop - you bring your machine and I'll bring the threads.

Learn how to choose the correct needle, and how to overcome your fear of the tension dial. We'll discuss the properties of the different threads available today so that you can make an informed decision when choosing thread.

Various machine applications will be covered, such as - straight stitch, free motion, decorative embroidery, both raw edge decorative and invisible applique. Learn some nifty techniques using fusible and water soluble threads.

At the end of the day you will have a new perspective on threads and your own sampler as future reference.

Threads will be available for purchase.

THE THREAD TALK

Are you overwhelmed when choosing threads for your quilting projects? With so much variety available today it can be both exciting and at times confusing.

Make an informed decision - learn about the different fibres and weights, how to choose the correct needle, and how to adjust the dreaded tension dial. overcome your fear of metallic and specialty threads. We’ll talk about the “dust bunnies’ in your machine, where they come from, and what you should be doing about them!

This is an informative lecture about all thread - not brand specific. You are also invited to bring problems along for discussion if time permits.

Threads will be available for purchase.

 APPLIQUE BUFFET (NEW FOR 2010)

Have a taste of various applique techniques & sample some new products that are available to simplify the process. Learn both turned edge invisible and fused decorative methods. We will be using invisible and fusible thread, decorative threads, and fusible web. This is a stress free day focusing on process rather than project. You will have samplers of all the techniques for future reference instead of another UFO!

Threads will be available for purchase.

TOOLS & TECHNIQUES FOR MARKING QUILTS

Marking seems to be the least favourite part of the quilting process, but there are many new products on the market to help us. Since there is no perfect "super tool" with which to mark each and every quilt it helps to have a wide repertoire of marking techniques.

This 45 minute lecture/demo will provide you with various marking methods suitable for both hand and machine quilting. You'll learn how to get the marks on - and how to get them off! After the program you can try out all the tools, and they will be available for purchase.
